Title
Is Minecraft Education?

If you're wondering why my speech is about minecraft as an education tool, if you are one of the many other people who may be thinking there is no point to using minecraft in school to help learning, stay tuned. This speech is for you. Hi my name is Leo and I am here to talk to you about minecraft being an effective, interesting education tool.

Big Idea 1
Have you ever had trouble working out the perimeter or area of something? Well, minecraft could actually help you at that point. Here is how. You need to build structures and to do this you need to add blocks together.  As you add these block together you need to know or work out the perimeter and area. It makes this learning fun.

Big Idea 2
Microsoft and Mojang created an edition to minecraft called Minecraft Education Edition. Minecraft edu (for short) is a game completely controlled by the teacher. The teacher can create any kind of server they like, for example a tutorial world. This makes sure that all activities are about learning and all students are on task.

You may be wondering if there are limits to things you can do. There are some boundaries put in place that stop players going off course. You can also change in the settings menu so that the game is creative mode so players can not kill other players and focus on what they are meant to be doing.

Big Idea 3
I have been thinking about what minecraft actually does to children's brains. Minecraft gets kids brains running. It is creative and challenging. I play minecraft myself and I realised it’s not just about gaming and killing other people, it’s about learning about the game and having your brain active and growing.

Did you know, that every time you make a mistake, your brain grows and every time you learn something new, your brain grows? This is called a growth mindset. Minecraft is excellent for growing your brain.

Big Idea 4
Minecraft can be is an obsession for gamers, it leaves people in their rooms wasting their lives away playing this video game. According to recent research over one million people play minecraft everyday. How about that for an obsession?

I think if we use it in schools and teach people how to manage themselves when using this game this game would turn from being an obsession and into a learning game. By bring minecraft into the classroom we are actually helping millions of students.

Concluding Statement

So what do you think about minecraft being used in schools now? As I have shared with you already,  It helps students become creative and have a growth mindset. It is a great way to motivate students to learn about maths in a fun and practical way. I think minecraft should be taught in every school so go and tell your teacher or principal all about it.
