Title
Is Minecraft Education?

If you're wondering why my speech is about minecraft as an education tool, if you are one of the many other people who may be thinking there is no point to using minecraft in school to help learning, stay tuned. This speech is for you. Hi my name is Leo and I am here to talk to you about minecraft being an effective, interesting education tool.

Big Idea 1
Have you ever had trouble working out the perimeter or area of something? Well, minecraft could actually help you at that point. Here is how. You need to build structures and to do this you need to add blocks together.  As you add these block together you need to know or work out the perimeter and area. It makes this learning fun.

Big Idea 2
Microsoft and Mojang created an edition to minecraft called Minecraft Education Edition. Minecraft edu (for short) is a game completely controlled by the teacher. The teacher can create any kind of server they like, for example a tutorial world. This makes sure that all activities are about learning and all students are on task.

You may be wondering if there are limits to things you can do. There are some boundaries put in place that stop players going off course. You can also change in the settings menu so that the game is creative mode so players can not kill other players and focus on what they are meant to be doing.

Big Idea 3
I have been thinking about what minecraft actually does to children's brains. Minecraft gets kids brains running. It is creative and challenging. I play minecraft myself and I realised it’s not just about gaming and killing other people, it’s about learning about the game and having your brain active and growing.

Did you know, that every time you make a mistake, your brain grows and every time you learn something new, your brain grows? This is called a growth mindset. Minecraft is excellent for growing your brain.

Big Idea 4
Minecraft can be is an obsession for gamers, it leaves people in their rooms wasting their lives away playing this video game. According to recent research over one million people play minecraft everyday. How about that for an obsession?

I think if we use it in schools and teach people how to manage themselves when using this game this game would turn from being an obsession and into a learning game. By bring minecraft into the classroom we are actually helping millions of students.

Concluding Statement

So what do you think about minecraft being used in schools now? As I have shared with you already,  It helps students become creative and have a growth mindset. It is a great way to motivate students to learn about maths in a fun and practical way. I think minecraft should be taught in every school so go and tell your teacher or principal all about it.

The Mighty Gorilla

Here is some Writing I thought you might want to see, I hope you enjoy it!

WALT; write a non chronological report

Remember to use:
  • an opening paragraph explain what your report is about.
  • headings and subheadings for the main body.
  • an closing paragraph, recapping on what you have written.
  • Pictures, maps etc with captions to explain what they are.
Remember to use faction not opinions.

The Mighty Gorilla
Gorillas are animals that mainly live in regions of dense forests in tropical Africa, such as Rwanda. Few animals have sparked the imagination of man as much as the gorilla, the biggest of the living primates and the last member of the ape family.

What do Gorillas look like?
The gorilla is huge, with muscular chest and shoulders. The arms are longer than the little legs. A fully grown male mountain gorilla is twice as large as the female.
What do they eat?
Most gorillas are herbivores which means they eat vegetables and herbs for their breakfast, lunch and dinner. Male gorillas can eat up to 20kg of food each day, that's more half a child’s own body weight.
Where do they live?
Image result for where do gorillas live
Habitat. Mountain gorillas live in Rwanda, Ugandaand the Democratic Republic of the Congo, on green, volcanic mountains. Lowland gorillas live in the forests of central and western Africa in Equatorial Guinea, Angola, Cameroon, the Central African Republic, Congo, Gabon and the Democratic Republic of the Congo
Concluding Paragraph

I think gorillas are one of the most amazing animals in the world first of all because they are endangered and very special and humans have a great responsibility to look after them.

Creative Writing

Once upon a time in a galaxy far, far away there lived a master Jedi who kind of looked like a alien/evil monster but claimed to be a master Jedi.

He swore that he would be on our side for the big battle against Darth Vader! Anyway, let's get on with the story.

So what's been happening so far, is that master Jedi came to find some allies to go battle with against Darth Vader and his gang. When I say his gang I mean his gang as in his troops battling with him in the fight against the good force so the dudes are KY-LO-REN, TERMINATOR LUKE and himself.

The fight was for the possession of the force. So the two sides met in the sacred battle ship hangar to fight to the death!

Anyway the two leaders came to the front and bowed to each other and of course Darth Vader being the evil one started the fight and tried to chop off master Jedi's head to win the force, but master Jedi was too quick and stopped the death by putting his light sabre in front of Darth Vader's sabre.

They battled for hours with their allies behind them fighting with guns.

Finally the fight came to a gruesome end with Darth Vader jabbing his sabre into master Jedi's chest and at the same time master Jedi did the same thing.

The two sides agreed to share the force amongst them.

  THE END!
